Eurogroup marks end of cycle and squaring of circle for Greece
It was in Luxembourg in October 2009 at a Eurogroup meeting that the Greek crisis formally began when the finance minister of the newly elected Greek government at the time, Giorgos Papaconstantinou, informed his counterparts that the previous New Democracy administration had essentially been lying to them about the state of the country’s finances.

Kastelorizo had a distinguished guest last week, when Alexis Tsipras became the first prime minister to visit the remote and picturesque Greek island since George Papandreou announced from the same spot almost eight years earlier that he had formally requested the activation of the ad hoc support mechanism the eurozone put together for Greece.

In an interview over the weekend, the head of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Klaus Regling aside from the optimism on the progress of the current review hinted of one of the options that eurozone lenders might be willing to consider for the debt relief that Greece is due to receive by the end of the programme.
