Tensions around the recent Mercosur trade deal are far from settled after the European Parliament decided to turn to the EU Court for a legal review. Some argue this will delay implementation by a couple of years, while EU officials maintain that provisional application can begin as planned.

The EU–Mercosur trade deal, which took two and a half decades to negotiate, establishes a vast trade zone covering more than 700 million people. Reaction on the ground has been mixed.
