The government’s bid on Tuesday to stop all protests marking the 1973 revolt against the junta turned into a fiasco and ended in clashes between police and demonstrators.
Via the police chief, New Democracy had banned all public gatherings on Tuesday. It argued that the Covid-19 crisis meant that, for public health reasons, the usual march to mark the student uprising against the dictatorship could not go ahead.
