Parties gear up for battle over pandemic media funding amid more warnings about press freedom

Public funding directed at the media during the pandemic will be at the centre of a parliamentary debate on Friday, following calls by the opposition for a special inquiry into alleged attempts by the government to manipulate public opinion for political gain.
In recent days, the public spat between PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and a Dutch journalist and her ensuing treatment by the domestic media, has revived warnings by international organisations about the erosion of press freedom in Greece.
