Insurgent campaign from Kasselakis puts shock SYRIZA leadership win in touching distance

US-based entrepreneur Stefanos Kasselakis has sprung a major surprise by coming from virtually nowhere in political terms to win the first round of SYRIZA’s leadership race, which will be decided next Sunday when he faces off against former labour minister Efi Achtsioglou, who came second.
Kasselakis took 45.4 pct of the vote, while Achtsioglou garnered 36.2 pct. They were followed by former ministers Nikos Pappas (8.6 pct) and Euclid Tsakalotos (8.4 pct), while former PASOK cadre Stefanos Tzoumakas gained just 1.2 pct.
