The government is trying to take steps to contain the scandal involving alleged fraud over payments to farmers, which gained attention last week when the headquarters of the Greek Payment and Control Agency for Guidance and Guarantee Community Aids (OPEKEPE) were raided last week.
It was announced on Friday that Rural Development and Food Minister Kostas Tsiaras had asked the interim head of OPEKEPE, Nikolas Salatas, to step down from his position in the wake of last week’s developments.
