The stage is set for a political showdown between the government and New Democracy ahead of the May 26 European and local elections after the opposition party submitted a censure motion regarding Alternate Health Minister Pavlos Polakis, which the government turned into a confidence vote in the whole cabinet.
As expected, conservative leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis made his move against Polakis after the minister criticised New Democracy’s paraplegic MEP candidate Stelios Kymbouropoulos in a row over benefits for disabled Greeks.
