Just a few days before the meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York, Ankara is due to begin this Monday scientific surveys in the Aegean Sea.
Turkey has issued a NAVTEX announcing that for the next ten days a research vessel, Piri Reis, will conduct surveys in parts of the Aegean Sea. The move is seen in Athens as a sign of Ankara’s discomfort over developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.
