Marco Rubio arrives in Athens on Tuesday at a moment when the US–Greece relationship is arguably stronger than at any point in recent years, but also when Athens is looking for evidence that this strategic proximity can deliver political weight beyond defence contracts and energy deals.

Greece is the only stop on Rubio’s European tour, and he is expected to spend two nights in the country.
