PM emerges wounded from confidence vote as Konstantopoulou boosts ratings

Friday’s confidence vote culminated in 157 MPs backing the government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, defeating the censure motion submitted by the parties of the left and centre-left, but the shockwaves from the Tempe issue will continue to rock New Democracy for some time to come.

Mitsotakis delivered a combative speech ahead of Friday evening’s ballot, insisting that he has no intention of holding early elections and that the government will, instead, see out its four-year term, which expires in 2027.
