Greece recalls ambassador in Austria, waits for EU position on refugee crisis

There was an escalation in the diplomatic tension over the refugee crisis on Thursday as Athens withdrew its ambassador from Vienna "for consultations" in retaliation for Austria limiting the number of refugees it accepts and hosting a summit with nine other European countries that did not include Greece.

In a strongly-worded statement, the Greek Foreign Ministry referred to “19th Century attitudes” and unilateral actions that go against international law and the European acquis.
