The initial impression (based on faulty exit polls) that Sunday’s local elections would be remembered only for unexpected SYRIZA victories proved wide of the mark.

The results of the first round of voting brought positives for the leftist party but also for New Democracy and PASOK, leaving things wide open for the following Sunday’s runoff votes and European Parliament elections.
