The government is hoping that forest fires will not prove as destructive as they did last summer, thereby not resulting in New Democracy taking another hit to its ratings and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis having the option of calling elections early, this autumn, if he wants.
Mitsotakis presided over a meeting at the Climate Change and Civil Protection Ministry on Thursday, where the various bodies involved in fire prevention and firefighting in Greece were represented as officials prepare for the summer.
