The turn of the year gave Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis an opportunity to reinforce the message that the government will continue to provide relief for hard-pressed households, as elections loom ever closer on the horizon.

In what has become a pattern of surprise announcements, an earlier-than-expected hike to the minimum wage became the latest in a series of measures to promise further support against the cost-of-living crisis.
