Greece near top of EU charts for proportion of population over 65 and 80

Greece has the second highest proportion of its population over the age of 80, according to data released this week by the EU’s statistical arm.
In terms of population aged 65 or over, Greece had the third highest proportion (20.5 percent), after Italy (21.4 percent) and Germany (20.8 percent) and above the EU average of 18.5 percent.
