Greek leaders' contrasting visions all a blur
The battle lines for Greece’s next general election have been drawn. Amid the bitterness spewing forth from SYRIZA, New Democracy and their supporters, the party’s two leaders have set out alternative visions for the country based on different economic policy, for any Greeks that are still interested in that kind of thing.

The rows of empty seats at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday as Alexis Tsipras spoke about Greece and European politics were in stark contrast to the tension-packed encounter he had with MEPs in 2015, before agreeing to a third bailout.

A moment to reflect, not celebrate
Well, the first thing to say is: Celebrate what? Until the recent devastating fire in Mati, on the outskirts on Athens, there was talk that the government was planning a grand event to mark Greece’s exit from its third adjustment programme on August 20. If anything, though, August 20 should be a moment for reflection, rather than celebration.
