Continuity and priorities
The first signals from the new government in Athens vis a vis its foreign policy is that there will be continuity on how Greece is dealing with unresolved issues with neighbouring countries and how it sees cooperation with friends and allies.

While China-US relations are deteriorating over bitter trade disputes, the imposition of tit-for-tat tariffs and intellectual property rights, the Sino-Russian partnership is evolving and deepening in areas such as security and defense, bilateral energy cooperation as well as the Kremlin’s expanding participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Welcome to the club: Greece Joins the 17+1 network
In the course of the past decade, China has invested in and provided loan funding for infrastructure projects across Central, Eastern and Southeast Europe. During this period Beijing has also established an institutional architecture across countries in these three European sub-regions. Founded in 2012, the 16+1 network organizes annual Central and Eastern Europe–China Summits.
